In Windows 8, documents can be scanned using an external scanner and saved onto the computer as images through Windows Fax and Scan. This tutorial describes how to open this program, scan a document, and save it.
Navigate to the start menu.
Search for Windows Fax and Scan and open the application.
Make sure the scanner is connected and turned on.
Press New Scan in the upper left corner.
Follow the on-screen directions to scan a document or photo.
