- Open the image in Paint.NET.
- To check the aspect ratio, go to Image, then Resize.
- Check Maintain aspect ratio.
- Type 1920 for the first value.
- If the second box is not 1080, then the image is not in a 16:9 aspect ratio.
- Close the resize window.
- Use the Rectangle Select tool in the toolbox.
- In the menu bar, click on Normal, or use the drop down menu to select Fixed Ratio.
- Type 16 for width and 9 for height.
- Drag the rectangle to select a crop area on the image. The box will stay in a 16:9 ratio.
- When you are ready, use the Crop to Selection button in the main toolbar, to the right of the cut, copy, and paste icons.
- Go to Image and Resize again.
- Check Maintain aspect ratio.
- Type 1920 in the first box.
- The second value should be close to 1080.
- If it is something like 1081, uncheck Maintain aspect ratio and change it. Either way, one pixel will not make a difference.
